Knockout
March 01, 2007
Knockout is a relatively low production Bally game that has things in common with other mid 70’s Ballys. Bonus, Double Bonus, Extra Ball, Special and a increasing value hole shot. It’s uniqueness is the “squiggle lane” which looks like it was borrowed from an earlier Bally game, “Sea Ray”. Fun to play but nothing spectacular, it has that good old solid Bally feel and those luscious chimes. Of note is the artwork, particularly the men in the peanut gallery, who all look like they are from the same family. Looks like somebody at Bally hired their cousin for a one-time art job. Who knows, maybe these were drawn from some kid’s High School doodle book, the aesthetics are very amateur, but it definitely has some weird kind of charm. Of note, Jem pointed out that as you can see in one of the detailed back glass pictures, one of the men looks like a George W Bush gay sex blow up doll. Oh yeah, its also one of the few pins with no women in the art.
Produced by Bally, 1975. 2 players. 7.8 out of 10 on the Play-O-Meter
High Score 666 by TBD on March 02, 2007
