Skylab

Skylab

March 23, 2005

Skylab is a tribute to the NASA endeavor that went into orbit in May of ’73 and came back down 6 years later in July of ’79. I must applaud the Williams Mfg. Co. for highlighting scientific achievements on a lot of their pinball machines instead of going for the all too common lure of sexy sirens. They were also responsible for many innovations to pinball and their games are usually underrated. This particular game, however, is considered by many to be a dud. A lot of novices like it because it does offer some fast and lengthy play, you can keep it going for quite a while. This is basically a bonus game with a captive balls feature in the middle that I consider a “sucker shot” as the ball drain risk is high. My playing strategy is to ignore the center “rocket Special” and instead increase the bonus by knocking out the letters S K Y L A B which gives 3 advance bonuses until I spell out Spacelab and then go for the sucker shot trying to get all 5 captive balls onto the lit side. Then if I lose the ball, I at least collect maximum bonus. And hell, it’s fun trying to get all the letters out. A good beginners game and a 6.5 on the playometer.

Produced by Williams, 1974. 1 players. 6.5 out of 10 on the Play-O-Meter
